Project partnership
The applicant, Gloucestershire Gateway Limited, is a partnership between Gloucestershire Gateway Trust and Westmorland Limited.
The nature and objective of this partnership underpin the uniqueness of the project. Together they bring the skills required to deliver the track record in operating a market leader MSA as well as the local knowlegde and community development skills required to maximise local benefit.
Gloucestershire Gateway Trust is a charity, set up in 2007 in order to bring this vision to reality. Mark Gale, its Chief Executive and former UK Soclal Entrepreneur of the Year, identified the opportunity for a MSA on this site, seeing it is an opportunity to create a sustainable annual income for local communities as well as a business which through its unique operation will bring significant local benefit. Having identified the opportunity, the Trust then sought a commercial partner which would embrace its objectives.
Westmorland Limited, the commercial partner, owns and runs Tebay Services on the M6, and has been described as the most innovative MSA in the country. It is renowned for its commitment to local producers, its home made food and its respect for its landscape, environment and communities. It is a second generation family business in Cumbria and employs 500 people with an annual turnover of £38 million. Visit westmorland.com for more details
